SUNBURY— A Sunbury small business is a hub for the buy fresh, buy local movement. The Sunbury Market House has been the ‘go-to’ spot for produce, meats, and baked goods since 1897. New owners took over in 2011 and continued the ‘local emphasis.’
Ross Family Farm near Sunbury is one of The Market House’s 17 vendors. Owner Perry Ross says farmers thrive on local business, “My firm belief is that Sunbury cannot be revitalized without the rural area, because that’s where all the ingredients come from for a society. When they buy local they are keeping the money local.”
He said The Market House is helping to preserve their farm, “(If not for them), this property is probably going to get built on for houses and be lost for good. There is no other market like this anywhere. The potential is here we just need to get the word out and let people know we are here.”
The Market house will be hosting a special event in conjunction with Small Business Saturday called, Shop Till You Drop. Market Manager, Sarah Lesser says, “We are going to have over 30 vendors here that day, we will have all types of stuff, anything people will need for their Christmas list they will find it in the Market House.”
In addition to shopping, The Sunbury Market house will have entertainment, a customer raffle, and even a visit from Santa. The Shop Till You Drop event and Small Business Saturday will both be taking place on November 28th.
