“Storybook Reception” to benefit Dolly Parton Imagination Library

SUNBURY – Trying to unite women and put a lot more books into the hands of children—that’s the purpose of an upcoming fundraiser and membership drive. It’s all about ‘Women United,’ “To mobilize a network of women and community leaders, who are motivated to take a leadership role, within the Greater Susquehanna Valley United Way, in order to address the most critical needs to our local communities through volunteerism, education, philanthropy and engagement.”

Brianna Apfelbaum is the Chair of ‘Women United’ and they are holding a “Storybook Reception” soon which will benefit the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. The event will also serve as a membership drive for Women United.

The Dolly Parton Imagination Library has given away over 100 million books to kids across the country.  Lizz Hendricks, chair of the Storybook Reception says locally they have over 200 kids actively receiving free books, but they have 120 more on a waiting list and that’s too many, , “We really want to raise the funds to be able to get a book in the hands of every kid who wants one.”

Hendricks says the $25 it costs to attend the “Storybook Reception” would buy a child a brand new book every month for a year. She says she wants this to be a celebration as well as a fundraiser.   To find out more information on Women United, and the “Storybook Reception” you can go to gsvuw.org or WKOK.com
