SUNBURY − There have been many victims of fraud and financial scams lately, but you can learn how to avoid these scams at an event taking place Tuesday. Mike Piecuch, Snyder County District Attorney, and Melissa Bottorf, Lead Link Coordinator at the Aging and Disability Resource Center, joined WKOK Sunrise to talk about an upcoming event called ‘Scam Jam.’
Bottorf talks about what people can expect to hear while attending the event, “We’ll have Mike talking about some local things that are happening here in our community. We have Katrina Boyle coming from the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities and she’ll be talking about what they’re seeing at the state level; and then the Attorney General’s office will be talking about the very top scams that are out there right now that are affecting people.”
DA Piecuch discusses some of the resources you can use to help protect yourself against fraud and scams, “You can get free credit reports and monitor the types of accounts that have been requested. That’s a big red flag right there, to monitor on a regular basis your credit report.”
