Two rescued on the Susquehanna River Tuesday

SUNBURY – One person was injured and had to be rescued on the Susquehanna River Tuesday. Northumberland County Communications tells WKOK the incident occurred just before 2 p.m., when a boat got stranded in the turbulent waters below the PPL Dam. Reports indicate the boat was unable to paddle out of the area below the dam. One person was injured and sent to Geisinger.

John Clifford, the Shikellamy State Park manager told WKOK in a recent interview, the area below the PPL dam, and immediately below the fabridam, is extremely dangerous. He said the hydraulics don’t permit swimmers or boaters to escape and get downstream. He said the only advice he knew for those stuck below the dam was to try to move parallel to the dam, toward shore. He said the best practice is to stay away from the dam, and to never boat or kayak over the dams. (Matt Catrillo)
