HARRISBURG – With Hurricane Harvey devastating Texas and Louisiana, the Central Pennsylvania Region of the American Red Cross is still looking for monetary donations and volunteers. Kim Maiolo, Director of Communications and Marketing for the Red Cross, “We’re asking folks to donate by going to redcross.org. We’re asking people that might be interested in volunteering to also visit our website at redcross.org/volunteer and to enter their information in there and we’ll contact them about potentially helping out.”
You can also send a check to your local Red Cross chapter, designating it to be sent for Hurricane Harvey relief.
Maiolo says a monetary donation is the best way to contribute, rather than sending food, clothing or house hold items, “Unfortunately, when you donate something like that, it takes a lot of money and time to store those items, to ship them, to clean them. So we ask that people instead consider a financial donation. That way we can quickly get people the items they need.”
Maiolo says 16 volunteers have already been deployed to Texas and Louisiana. She said this will be a prolonged clean-up so more people from central PA will be going down. She said Texas has called for about a thousand volunteers to help. We’ll be speaking with one volunteer already deployed. Stay tuned for that story on WKOK and WKOK.com.
