PENN TOWNSHIP – A spot for Penn Township Supervisor is now open. The Daily Item reports Pete DeWire has resigned as township supervisor after serving less than two years of a six-year term. DeWire told the paper he and his wife are building a new home in Snyder County and while being a supervisor was rewarding, he decided he didn’t want to do it anymore.

Board Chairman Brenda Moyer was instrumental in DeWire’s initial decision to run, saying it’s a great loss for the township. Supervisor Jon Payne was not available for comment Wednesday.

The paper says the township is advertising for candidates to submit resumes on or before October 30 at the Penn Township Municipal Building. Moyer and Payne will appoint DeWire’s successor November 2 and that individual will serve through 2019. (Matt Catrillo)
