Northumberland County ‘Fight the Blight’ gets more funding

HARRISBURG – The state Department of Community and Economic Development recently awarded a grant to the Housing Authority of Northumberland County.  The $200,000 grant will help the authority continue its “Fight the Blight” initative.

The partnership of local and county officials has been working to aquire and demolish or rehabilitate blighted properties.   State Representative Kurt Masser (R-10th, Elysburg) says the grant will help the authority move forward with projects for the good of Northumberland County.

The program previously spent over $1 million dollars to acquire 35 blighted and abandoned properties.  The grant was made possible through the Keystone Communities Program.    (Chad Hershberger)
