DANVILLE – New guidelines from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) now has a Valley health system posting its hospital charges online. Geisinger has announced it is now posting hospital charges for all the organization’s facilities to comply with the new guidelines. The new link and instructions to the page are posted below.
In addition, Geisinger says it has long featured a MyEstimate tool on its website. Stacey Cook is the Quality Manager in the Revenue Management Department at Geisinger, “Which is a Geisinger trademark to help customers determine their out-of-pocket expenses for procedures and services in any of our Geisinger locations. In addition to our online tools, we have financial counselors available.”
Geisinger says its hospital charges are the same for all patients, and don’t include physician charges, which are billed separately. Cook says transparency with patients when it comes to hospital charges has always been Geisinger’s approach, “We want to help patients obtain insurance coverage if they don’t have any. We always want to speak with the patients to help them with their cost-sharing responsibilities and help them find the best avenue for not only the care they receive, but also any financial assistance that we can offer.”
The new guidelines have been part of the Trump Administration’s efforts to encourage patients to become better-educated about their care.
