Meth explosion causes house fire in Mifflinburg

MIFFLINBURG  – It indeed was a meth lab explosion that caused a house fire in Mifflinburg Friday afternoon. Mifflinburg police say the incident occurred just before 4:30 p.m. at 393 Thompson Street Apartment C. The suspect is identified as Patrick Mullany. They say he told police and firefighters he was cooking meth when something blew up. Mullany said he attempted to put the fire out, but realized it was too big to get under control. Mullany then fled the scene on foot but was captured a short time later by police.

Police say one other person present was in another apartment. That person was safely evacuated by fire department personnel. Mullany was arraigned by on-call Judge Jeffrey Mensch on numerous felony charges, including risking a catastrophe and manufacture of methamphetamine. Mullany was committed to the Union County Jail on $50,000 cash bail. (Matt Catrillo)
