MOUNT CARMEL – A man responsible for a deadly drug exchange in October is now set to be sentenced. 23-year-old Ryan Chambers, last known to live in Mount Carmel, pleaded guilty to a charge of ‘drug deliver resulting in death.’
As a result of a pre-sentence investigation, his sentence is likely to be about nine years in state prison. If not for this plea agreement, Chambers could have spent up to 40-years in jail.
Northumberland County District Attorney Tony Matulewicz said this entire case is the result of ‘good old fashioned police work on the part of the Mount Carmel Township police and others.
Police say 60-year-old Matthew Santangelo of Mount Carmel died October 27 from a drug provided by Chambers. Northumberland County Coroner James Kelly ruled Santangelo died of mixed-drug toxicity.
