In Danville, a World War II vet, educator and leader has died

DANVILLE — In Danville, a World War II US Army veteran, educator, school administrator, history buff and family leader has died. George Gehrig died over the weekend, he was 92.

Gehrig enlisted in the US Army in 1944 and was in the service for two years, serving with Medical Detachment of the 23rd Infantry Division. After military service, he earned a Master’s Degree at Bucknell and began teaching in the Danville Area School District. He worked for the district for 35 years.

 

Gehrig was also active in a number of endeavors, including and especially his church, the Trinity Lutheran Church in Danville. Gehrig was active with the Montour County Historical Society as well. He is survived by his wife Betty, two daughters and many other immediate family members. Funeral services are set for Thursday at 2pm.
