LEWSIBURG – October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and the Thyra M Humphrey Center for Breast Health is having a “Girls Night Out” event on Tuesday, October 12 and Tuesday October 26.
Andrea Bertom of Evangelical Community Hospital says for women over the age of 40, early detection and mammograms are very important, “We believe all women should start at the age of 40, and have one every year. The earlier we can detect a cancer, the easier and less intrusive the treatment is. It’s eight minutes out of your life to save your life.”
Bertrom says the “Girls Night Out” is about caring about yourself, and a friend, “It’s taking that extra step to take care of yourself, or to take care of your friend. It’s always easier with a friend. If you’re a little bit scared, or you’ve never done it, this gives you the opportunity to just grab a friend and come together.”
She says, “Bring your friends and enjoy refreshments, chair massages, aromatherapy, essential oil demonstrations and mammograms and free osteoporosis screenings.” You can register by calling 570-522-4200.
