NORTHUMBERLAND – After a snag in the project, the next phase of the Duke Street project in Northumberland will begin soon. PennDOT officials provided that update during an informal meeting with residents Thursday at King Street Park. They say phase four of the project is expected to be completed shortly after Memorial Day as paving work finishes.
Mindy Foresman, PennDOT Transportation Construction Manager, says phase five of the Duke Street work will begin in early June and work will be completed by Pineknotter Days, “That will be from the northside of Amato’s down to and including Third Street. It’ll be full depth reconstruction just like we’re doing now.”
As phase five begins, Foresman says the temporary traffic light at King Street will be used,
“And then phase six, which we will be starting after Pineknotter Days, that will be using the temporary signal at Orange Street. That will be from Third Street down to just above the north side of Park Avenue.”
Work on both sides of Front Street will begin Monday and is expected to be completed by Pineknotter days as well. Work on Route11/Water Street at the railroad underpass is expected to begin in late June, starting with the southbound side. Work on the northbound side is expected to begin next March. A detour while crews work on each side of Route 11 will be in place…drivers will be sent from Water Street through the island and onto Front Street in Sunbury, and to Veterans Memorial Bridge.
