DANVILLE – Big news out of Geisinger, as the health system announced Thursday evening President/CEO Dr. David Feinberg is leaving the health system to take a leadership role at Google.The Wall Street Journal reports Dr. Feinberg is taking a newly created role overseeing Google’s health-care efforts.
Geisinger says Dr. Jaewon Ryu, M.D. J.D. has been named Interim President and Chief Executive Officer, effective December 1. Dr. Feinberg will remain with Geisinger until January 3, 2019, to facilitate a smooth transition.
Dr. Ryu previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Geisinger since September 2016. Dr. Ryu has overseen all aspects of patient care at Geisinger. He was instrumental in leading many of its signature initiatives, including the redesign of Geisinger’s primary care model and implementation of the Geisinger At Home program.
Dr. Feinberg served as President/CEO of the health system since 2015. In a statement, Dr. Feinberg says it was a great privilege to lead Geisinger, improving patient and member experience. He says the health system is in capable hands.
After announcing in October a stronger and unique partnership with Geisinger, Kendra Aucker, President/CEO of Evangelical Community Hospital says, “I have a great deal of respect for Dr. David Feinberg and he’s an innovator. Google got a great person in Dr. Feinberg. He did a great job in providing many aspects for Geisinger. I enjoyed a great working relationship with him. We will work with Dr. Ryu that our new working relationship will continue in the way that we designed it.”
