Coroner: ID of dead male found in Susquehanna still being sought

DALMATIA – The identity of a male found dead in the Susquehanna River near the Dalmatia boat launch is still unknown. Northumberland County Coroner James Kelley tells us due to the body’s decomposition, they will use dental records, fingerprints and or DNA samples to positively confirm the male’s identity.

 

Deputy Coroner Gabe DeMarco is also assisting in the investigation. Chief Deputy Coroner James Gotlob assisted DeMarco at the river scene. State police are also involved.

 

Stonington State police say they received the report of the dead body found aroud 7 p.m. Saturday near Zeigler Island in Lower Mahanoy Township, Northumberland County. Troopers say a further investigation discovered the unidentified male corpse was found lodged in debris from previously receded high waters. State police say the body appeared to have been in the river for several months.

 

Millersburg Fire Company Boat Rescue, Dalmatia Fire Company, and a state police forensic unit also responded to the scene.
