SHAMOKIN— October is National Bullying Awareness Month and Northumberland County Youth Leadership is hosting a Unity Day this week. Carolyn Richardson, program manager for Northumberland County Youth Leadership, “Unity Day is a national day to raise awareness about bullying, and the Northumberland County Youth Leadership they have organized and are hosting a Unity Day event in Shamokin.”
Thursday from 5-6:30 pm in Claude Kehler Park, Northumberland County Youth Leadership will host the family-friendly event. There will be live music from local artist, guest speakers, and fun kid’s activities. Although it will be an evening of fun, Richardson says the purpose of the event it’s to raise awareness about bullying in our communities, “The whole idea is to raise awareness about bullying, the effects of bullying, and also to have the community to come together and recognize this and then work toward helping to prevent it.”
Northumberland County Youth Leadership asks guest to wear orange to show support for their cause. The leadership group engages teens in our local community in positive and constructive activities.
