Work starts this week on busy Rt. 642 bridge

MONTOUR COUNTY – PennDOT crews will be out working on two bridges on Route 642 in Northumberland and Montour counties this week. They say a contractor will start preservation work on the deck of a bridge spanning Chillisquaque Creek on Route 642 in East Chillisquaque Township. There will be daytime lane restrictions and they say this work will take about a week to complete.

In Montour County PennDOT says a maintenance crew will begin replacing a bridge on Route 642 between Stine Road and Kitchen Road in Derry and West Hemlock Townships. Crews will be placing a precast box culvert there. The bridge will be closed during the project.

A detour will be in place using Columbia Hill Road and Stine Road. A truck detour will use Columbia Hill Road, Derrs Road and Route 44. The project is expected to be completed by late August, weather permitting.
